What a generation looks like

Below is a verbatim excerpt from a real Mateo run against linear.app, followed by a tour of everything the full document contains.

linear.app - design.md§01 verbatim from a real generation

01 · Visual Theme & Atmosphere

Linear’s design is a study in deep technical minimalism with layered atmospheric depth. The entire experience sits on a near-black canvas (#08090A) - not pure #000000, but a dark near-navy with barely perceptible warmth - paired with bright neutral text (#F7F8F8). This is not a “light and airy” product interface; it is a command center.

The full document

Section 01 above is one of eight. A complete generation covers the entire system - every value below extracted from the live page, with anything inferred explicitly marked as an estimate:

§01

Visual Theme & Atmosphere

The design's identity in prose - what makes it itself, and its signature visual moments.

§02

Color Palette & Roles

Every color with its exact value, its role, and where it's used - with usage evidence.

§03

Typography Rules

Families, the full hierarchy table (size / weight / line-height / tracking), and the system behind it.

§04

Component Specifications

Buttons, inputs, cards, navigation - exact dimensions, radii, shadows, and interaction states.

§05

Composition & Layout

The grid, content widths, and the above-the-fold layout stack.

§06

Spacing System

The spacing scale and where each step applies.

§07

Motion & Interaction

Transition durations, easing curves, hover diffs, and scroll-triggered behavior.

§08

Depth & Effects

Shadows, gradients, blurs, and elevation rules.

Alongside the report, every run includes a Design System Health assessment (an overall score computed from per-category checks, each backed by cited evidence) and an AI Context summary compressed for pasting into a model’s context window. Pro and Max runs extend the report with Do’s and Don’ts and Responsive Behavior sections.
